Principal's Message

Welcome back to school, Leopards!

I am so excited to serve in the role of principal at La Porte Elementary this year. This will actually be my 10th year at LPE, previously serving as a Resource teacher and then Assistant Principal.  Overall, this is my 23rd year in education.

You may have heard about our new STEM Academy.  We have created a dedicated STEM Lab where PreK, 3rd and 4th graders will participate in regularly scheduled Science, Technology, Engineering and Math lessons supported by our district STEM facilitator.  Additionally, this lab is available for Kinder thru 2nd grade classes to use with their teachers.  Of course, 5th grade still has the Science Lab in their pod where all kinds of science activities happen throughout the year! We cannot wait to watch this program grow!

This year, LPE continues to offer free Breakfast in the Classroom for all students.  However, free lunches are only available for students who qualify. Make sure to fill out the Free and Reduced Lunch Application available on the parent portal if you need this assistance. While you’re there, check out all the other Back to School information available!

Make sure you follow La Porte Elementary’s PTO on Facebook to see how they are supporting our teachers, and how you can help! We also have our Watch D.O.G.S. back this year, stop by the office to get information on how you can sign-up!

Lastly, it is so important for all students to be here and on time every day.  Yes, this is how we get some of our funding.  And yes, it helps with our accountability.  However, most importantly, it helps each child be more successful.  Our teachers plan rigorous and sequenced lessons for each day.  When a student misses even one of these lessons, it can cause them to fall behind and not get the most benefit from the instruction.  Of course, we understand that emergencies arise and sometimes children get sick.  Please, help your child get their best education by making sure they are here and on time every day possible.

As always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to give us a call!

It is going to be a GREAT school year, because everyday is a great day to be a Leopard.

Karen Lawley, Principal
