Communities in Schools
The Communities In Schools After-school Centers on Education (CIS-ACE) program offers an opportunity for students to receive academic enrichment, homework assistance, and enrichment activities outside of school hours. ACE will be provided in the same format that school takes place i.e. if school is in person, ACE will be in person. If school is virtual, ACE will be virtual. The program is free to qualifying participants with a focus on providing expanded academic enrichment opportunities such as:
- Tutorial services and homework assistance to help children meet state and local academic achievement standards in core subjects such as reading, mathematics, science, and social studies.
- A broad array of additional services, programs, and activities including youth development, violence prevention, fine arts, technology, recreation, physical education, character education, social-emotional learning, health, wellness, and nutrition programs, as well as educational programs that are designed to reinforce and complement the regular academic program. Our CIS-ACE program instills curiosity and excites learners to become even more resourceful so that they will continue to learn outside the normal school day.
- Offering families of students served by CIS-ACE opportunities for literacy, parenting, and related development programs; exposure to civic and community service projects; and an opportunity to participate in their children’s academic and social development.
Students recommended by school-day staff for academic, behavior, or attendance issues, will be given the highest priority for enrollment in the program. Space is limited, therefore not all students wishing to participate will qualify. Contact your ACE Site Coordinator for more information or complete a letter of interest at: LOI La Porte Elementary
